The family of the baby alleged medical negligence by the staff of Sub District Hospital Tangdhar.
SRINAGAR — A new born baby died hours after the delivery, and his family members alleged that the baby had a deep cut on his head that apparently looked like a sharp object wound.
The incident occurred at Sub-District hospital Tangdhar in north Kashmir’s Kupwara. The family alleged that it was a case of medical negligence of the hospital staff.
Abid Qayoom, brother of the woman who delivered the baby, said that his sister was admitted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Tangdhar on Friday evening. At 6, on Saturday morning, she gave birth to a baby boy.
He said that immediately after the birth, the baby’s health started to deteriorate, and was under the observation of the medical staff at the hospital. However at 11 am, the doctors at the hospital asked the family to shift him to Handwara District Hospital.

“At Handwara hospital, the doctors attended the infant and found an injury on his head due to which he had lost excessive blood,” Abid said. The doctors after examining the baby asked the family to shift him to Srinagar for advanced medical attention.
On way to Srinagar, Abid said, the baby died at Pattan. He blamed the medical staff of SDH Tangdhar for “killing” his nephew.
Stating that it was a case of medical negligence, the family has demanded stern action against the staff of SDH Tangdhar that attended the baby.
Dr. Mehraj Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Kupwara said he was not aware of the incident but said he would look into it.
