J&K Police Says 2 JeM Modules Busted, 3 ‘Hybrid Militants’ Among 11 Arrested

A police spokesperson said that the arrested trio was allegedly in contact with ‘Pakistan-based handlers and was planning attacks on government forces.


SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday claimed to have busted two militant modules of Jaish-e-Muhammad by arresting eleven persons including three hybrid militants in southern Kashmir’s Anantnag.

A police spokesperson, in a statement, said that based on credible inputs that JeM militant is planning to carry out attacks on government forces in Srigufwara/Bijbehara areas of Anantnag, multiple checkpoints were established at various locations.

“During checking at one of such checkpoints at Sakhras crossing Srigufwara, a bike rider with 2 pillion riders was intercepted, the said persons tried to flee but were apprehended tactfully by the alert police party. (SIC) Upon their personal search, 02 Pistols (Chinese) along with magazine and ammunition was recovered. During preliminary questioning, they revealed their identity as Abbas Ah Khan son of Nazir Ah Khan resident of Liver, Zahoor Ah Gowgujri son of Ab Rashid Gowgujri resident of Vidday and Hidayatullah Kutay son of Ab Razak Kutay resident of Liver Pahalgam.”

The spokesperson said that they disclosed that they are the associates of JeM and are allegedly in direct contact with Pakistan-based handlers and allegedly at their behest, they were going to attack government forces in the Srigufwara area and then formally join KFF (an offshoot of JeM).

He said that upon their further disclosure two more militant associates Shakir Ahmad Gowgojri son of Fayaz Ahmad, a resident of Viday Srigufwara, and Musharaf Amin Shah son of Mohammad Amin, a resident of Katsoo Srigufwara were arrested. Incriminating materials including arms/ammunition were also recovered from their possession. In this regard, a case vide FIR No 04/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS Srigufwara and further investigation is in progress, he said.

Similarly, the spokesperson said that Police busted another militant module in Bijbehara area by arresting six militant associates of KFF and recovered incriminating materials including ammunition from their possession. They have been identified as Fayaz Ahmad Khan son of Ghulam Hassan Khan, a resident of Liver Pahalgam; Muntazir Rashid Mir son of Abdul Rashid, a resident of Yanner Pahalgam; Muhammad Arif Khan son of Farooq Ahmad Khan, a resident of Mandar Gund Sakhras; Adil Ah Tarray son of Ghulam Nabi Tarray, a resident of Hatigam; Zahid Ahmad Najar son of Nazir Ahmad Najar, a resident of Liver Pahalgam and the sixth one is a juvenile (identity withheld).

In this regard, a case has been registered under relevant sections of law in Police Station Bijbehara. Further investigation into the matter is in progress.
