The slain have been identified as Amir Ahmad Wani, a resident of Alamgunj village in Shopian and Sameer Ahmad Khan, a resident of Tiken village in Pulwama.
SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday claimed to have killed two militants in a military operation in Okay village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
In a statement, a spokesperson of police said that based on inputs generated by Police regarding the presence of militants in the village, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, 9RR and 18Bn CRPF in the area.
During the search operation, as the joint search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, “the militants fired indiscriminately†upon the joint search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter.
In the ensuing encounter, two militants of the militant outfit The Resistance Front, which police claim is an offshoot of proscribed militant outfit LeT, were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of the encounter.
The spokesperson identified the slain as Amir Ahmad Wani, a resident of Alamgunj Shopian and Sameer Ahmad Khan, a resident of Tiken Pulwama.

As per police records, the slain militant Amir Ahmad was a categorized militant, however, the other slain militant had joined militancy recently. “Both the slain militants were part of a group involved in several cases.â€
“Incriminating materials arms and ammunition including 01 AK-47, 01 pistol were recovered from their possession. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.â€
Police said it has registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated.
