Road Accident Kills Six in Kishtwar

SRINAGAR — At least six people are feared dead in a road accident in Keshwan area of District Kishtwar.

Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Ashok Kumar Sharma said that five people died on the spot while one is being shifted to hospital.

Meanwhile, SSP Kishtwar Shafqat Hussain confirmed to the agency that the sixth one died on the way to the hospital.

The deceased people include Mohammad Arkhan, 29, Abdul Rehman, 29, Abdul Lateef, 42, Ata Mohammad, 22, Inam, 45, and 18-year-old Zameer.

Meanwhile, police and army personnel from 26 RR immediately rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

According to the officials, a vehicle bearing registration number JK17-5809 skidded off the road and rolled down into the gorge near Nagriana.

Officials said that soon after the incident, locals, police and army men from 26 RR immediately rushed to the spot and launched a massive rescue operation during which five persons were found dead on the spot while one was taken to the hospital in a critical condition. However, the injured also succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Abdul Latief, son of Sandoo Rather of Nagrigarh, Muhammad Irfan, son of Ghulam Haider Sheikh of Nagrigarh, Atta Muhammad, son of Ghulam Ahmed Butt of Panthna, Abdul Rehman, son of Ghulam Ahmed Butt of Panthna, Ghulam Hassan, son of Ghulam Muhammad Butt of Gamass and Zubair Ahmed, son of Atta Muhammad Hajam of Panthna.

Meanwhile, a case under FIR number 16/22 under section 279/304 IPC has been registered at Police Station Kishtwar and investigation has been set into the motion.

Moreover, Lieutenant Governor Manjoj Sinha expressed anguish over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
