J&K Policeman Killed Outside His Home in Bijbehara

SRINAGAR — A Jammu and Kashmir policeman was killed by militants outside his home in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday evening, police said.
A police spokesperson said that at about 1730 hrs J&K Police received information about an incident at Hasanpora Tabala area of Bijbehara in Anantnag where militants had fired upon Police personnel.
“Senior police officers reached the spot and learned that Head Constable Ali Mohammad Ganie was shot at by militants near his residential house at Hasanpora Tabala area of Bijbehara Anantnag.”
He said Ganie had received grievous gunshot injuries. Although, he was immediately evacuated to a nearby hospital, however, he succumbed to his injuries. The slain was posted at Police Station Kulgam.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Party President and Member of Parliament from Srinagar Dr Farooq Abdullah, and Vice President Omar Abdullah condemned the killing.

Dr Farooq said, in a statement said, “Violence in any of its manifestations is always unacceptable and will yield nothing except further death and destruction. The vicious cycle of death has caused much loss to human lives in J&K while devastating the socio-economic conditions of the people during the last three decades. It is high time for such incidents to be stopped now. My heartfelt sympathies are with the bereaved family.”
Condemning the killing, Omar Abdullah said, “I unequivocally condemn the cowardly attack on JKP HC Ali Mohammad Ganaie. I send my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.,” he said.
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti also condemned the incident and offered condolences to the bereaved family.
“Deepest condolences to his family & loved ones. People of J&K are victims of this senseless cycle of violence that keeps claiming innocent lives. (SIC),” she tweeted.
A PDP spokesperson also condemned the killing. “We offer our condolences to the bereaved family,” he said.
