SRINAGAR — Automobile giant Hyundai faced flak in India after the company’s dealer in Pakistan shared solidarity messages on social media over Kashmir. The company’s India unit shared a statement, highlighting its “zero-tolerance policy towards insensitive communication”.
On February 5, Hyundai Pakistan’s social media handles shared posts in solidarity with the “Kashmiri brothers” in their “struggle for freedom”, India Today reported. Pakistan observes February 5 as ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day’ to show its support to Kashmir.
The social media posts were later removed.
However, #BoycottHyundai started trending on Twitter in India, with many calling out the company for its social media posts on ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day’.
Following the controversy, Hyundai India released a statement that it “stands firmly for its “strong ethos of respecting nationalism”.

“The unsolicited social media post linking Hyundai Motor India is offending our unparalleled commitment and service to this great country. India is second home to the Hyundai brand and we have a zero tolerance policy towards insensitive communication and we strongly condemn any such view,” the statement read.
Hyundai has partnered with Nishat Mills, a subsidiary of Nishat Group, in Pakistan.
Hyundai Motor India is the second-largest carmaker in India after Maruti Suzuki.
